Start now to build your Fuel Up to Play 60 program for 2010/11, and be sure to include both adults AND students! Here are some great tips for getting organized. The more pre-planning you can do now, the quicker your school can get started in the fall!
First, join Fuel Up to Play 60 and encourage other adults in the school to do the same. Adults can join here now! And, while you're there, don't forget to sign up as your school's Program Advisor - every school needs one (or more), and you can earn rewards and recognition for yourself and your school.
Next, get your students on board. Put out the word that you're looking for motivated students who care about school wellness. In some schools, existing student groups take on Fuel Up to Play 60 as their program for the year. In others, the Program Advisor puts together a new group. The important thing is passion — anyone who is passionate about student health would be an asset to the program. And don't leave out your colleagues in school nutrition or physical education — for change to be sustainable, they need to be involved!
Then, start building your plan for next year. You can start by using the School Wellness Investigation tool to collect data about your school's wellness program. This will be a big help when it's time to pick your Healthy Eating and Physical Activity "Plays" next year.
Apply for funding. A new, nationwide competitive funding program lets all Fuel Up to Play 60 schools apply for up to $3,000 a year in funds to help support your program's activation.
