What's New for the 2010-11 School Year

If you’ve been part of Fuel Up to Play 60, you already know about all the great in-school tools available – free! The program’s getting even better in 2010/11. Here’s a quick look at just some of the enhancements.

What's the Same:

  • Adult/Student partnership. Adult Program Advisors and students work together to improve school wellness by implementing sustainable Action Strategies. Teams can use "Plays," which are action strategies and ideas available on Fuel Up to Play 60, as a starting point, or design their own — one to increase student access to Healthy Eating, one to increase students' Physical Activity, and one to Kickoff your program. Teams also conduct some wrap-around activities to get everyone at the school involved, like doing some preliminary data-gathering using the online School Wellness Investigation tool.
  • Free School Wellness Kits, with display materials and other cool tools to activate the program, are being shipped to 60,000 enrolled Fuel Up to Play 60 schools in September.
  • The FuelUpToPlay60.com website will continue to be at the center of the action, with interactive fun and tracking for students, and program tools for adults and student leaders.
  • Lots of great incentives and rewards to get students and schools involved.
  • The National Dairy Council®, local Dairy Councils, and the National Football League remain committed to supporting schools' ability to increase access to healthy eating and physical activity for students, through programs like Fuel Up to Play 60.

What's New:

  • Funding Now Available! To help activate your in-school program, enrolled Fuel Up to Play 60 schools can now apply for up to $3,000 in funding during 2010-11. The first application deadline is October 1st, so get started now!
  • Program Advisors: The Program Advisor role is a new one for many Fuel Up to Play 60 schools in 2010/11. This is the adult (or adults) who:
    • Engages and empowers students to implement Fuel Up to Play 60
    • Encourages other adults in the school to get involved, especially the school nutrition team and the physical education department, since Fuel Up to Play 60 is about healthy eating and physical activity.

    Why become a Program Advisor?

    • Program Advisors are a key part of the program (and schools applying for funding must have a Program Advisor on board)
    • New this year: Program Advisors can earn rewards and recognition for themselves and their schools, just for being in action on Fuel Up to Play 60!
    • Any enrolled adult can sign up to be the school Program Advisor. Schools can have more than one Program Advisor
    • To sign up, log in to your Personal Dashboard and click on the Program Advisor box in the My Roles tab
  • Introducing Dashboards! Online, personal "dashboards" will help to organize the Fuel Up to Play 60 program in participating schools. If you're an enrolled adult in a school, you'll be able to see:
    • Who else has joined Fuel Up to Play 60 in the school.
    • Who is the Program Advisor in the school.
    • Who has requested your school's free School Wellness kit (where applicable).
    • Which Healthy Eating and Physical Activity "Plays" your school has chosen to implement.
    • How many students are participating... and more.

The dashboard is also where you can update your contact information and retrieve communication alerts about just-announced new resources or program incentives. Your dashboard is your Fuel Up to Play 60 "home," and new features will be added regularly.
